Rakel Helmsdal, Faroe Islands

Rakel Helmsdal, born in 1966, is a Faroese author and puppeteer. She has written novels, plays and short stories for all ages and is the director of Karavella Marionette-Teatur where she produces her own plays. She has been teaching in writing workshops since 1996.Rakel Helmsdal is especially known for her books about the boy named Victor Hugo Persson. Since 2001 she has worked with the Icelandic illustrator Áslaug Jónsdóttir and the Swedish author Kalle Güettler on a series of picture books about the little and the big monster, which won several awards, among them a nomination for the Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize 2015. She was nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award 2013-15. Her novel Hon, sum róði eftir ælaboganum (eng. She Rowed After the Rainbow) is nominated for The Children and Youth Literature Prize of the West Nordic Council.
