Lilian Brogger, Denmark

Lilian Brogger, born in 1950 on the island of Fanø, is the most important Danish illustrator. She studied at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts and was the first woman to graduate in illustration. Today with more than 100 illustrated books to her credit, she has set trends and been a main influence on visual expression for children and adults alike throughout Scandinavia. As a lecturer at the Kolding School of Design, she campaigns for artistic equality between illustrators and authors. Lilian Brogger was a member of the jury of the Illustration Exhibition in Bologna and got the most important international awards for illustration herself, among them the Golden Apple of Bratislava and the Hans Christian Andersen Award. With the book Halli! Hallo! Så er der nye firkantede historier (Halli! Hallo! So there are new square stories) she was nominated for the Nordic Council´s Children and Young People’s Literature Prize 2014. In 2016 she is nominated for the renowned Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award.
